Speaking

I love speaking about dictionaries, language, and words and am happy to talk with you about speaking to your group. I do not use a speakers bureau — go ahead and contact me directly.

Here are a few videos of talks I’ve given:

At the GEL conference in 2006

At Pop!Tech in 2006

At the TED conference in 2007

A demo at the WSJ’s D8 conference in 2010

If you have a LOT of time to watch online video, here are links to two longer talks I gave at Google:

Erin McKean at Google, 2006

Erin McKean at Google, 2007

  1. Erin, I viewed your TED talk just a little bit ago. Quite inspiring! Plus, I just found Wordnik, such an awesome idea. I really enjoy it, especially since I have been thinking about lexicography lately. With that, I was wondering if I could correspond with you about lexicography and any suggestions you have about it or ways to become involved, since I am still an undergraduate. Then, what ways to go about pursuing lexicography after my university studies. Have an awesome day, and thanks for inspiring and letting me know that it is okay to obsess over words and their meanings. Lol. Merry Christmas!

  2. Erin, I view both of your talks on TED.com. It is an inspiration to me. I am beginning to study the meaning of the Chinese Characters. Very fascinating because that is my heritage. Wishing you the best in the coming New Year 2015!
